About Me

Ooooh.  The about me page.  I guess Ill share the story of how I got into photography and what my goals are.

As a child, I was a bit of an introvert.  One who enjoyed learning how things worked and would obsess about a topic until I became a quasi-expert in it.  I was, and still am, driven to know the why or how in any topic I find remotely interesting.  As a young teen, my grandfather had taken up film photography and had a second camera.  When either of us visited, we would grab our garage sell cameras and jump in the truck and get lost.  I recall many days bouncing around the dirt roads and trails near Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, where he lived, with our cameras in our hands, photographing the odd barn being reclaimed by nature.  I kept up with photography for a few years, but really just documented my travels and not really exploring the art form it was.

In September 2013, I picked up my first DSLR, a Nikon D7000 on my way to Tokyo, Japan.  Having just been trained to document crime scenes with the same camera system, I thought it perfect to re-light the interest I had in photography.  No better time than when traveling abroad.  My family and I lived in Tokyo for three years and that camera was always in my hand.  I was a bit spastic in my interests however, taking in all I could learn from any source.  As I progressed in the hobby, I learned more about post processing and was introduced to Adobe Photoshop.  I take a lot of inspiration from photographers such as Nick Page, Ryan Dyar, Enrico Fossati, and many others.  What I learned, many times over, is that you cant beat good conditions but knowing how to post process matters.

In looking at my catalog, its evident to me that inspiration comes in waves.  Some years, the passion was fire, where I was constantly shooting.  Some others, I struggled to remember I liked photography.  But I think thats a bit normal.  In juggling the priorities of Family, Career, and passions… sometimes you gotta let things lay low so you don’t get burned out.

In 2019, My family and I moved to Colorado and then to Arkansas in 2022.  Both are wildly different places but there is inspiration all over the place.  In Colorado, it was abandoned structures, storm chasing, mountains, and great light.  In Arkansas, its the wildness of the Ozarks and waterfalls.  So, as I explore Arkansas more, this is where I will share the stories behind the lens, the close calls, and the restoration that comes from a day out in nature.
